2017 NORTH JEFFERSON CENTURY RIDE REPORT
Our North Jefferson Century riders enjoyed a nice cool start with temps only climbing into the upper 80’s in the later afternoon. Friday evening’s pre-registration at Hoover Academy Sports saw a good number of cyclists grab their packets and register and even more signed up on Saturday morning with over 220 as their final number. All throughly enjoyed the new headquarters at Gardendale Baptist Church with plenty of rest rooms, showers & dressing areas, and AIR CONDITIONING! A few of our area cycle clubs got together for some cool group photos before taking off:
The new controlled send-off, with the help of Gardendale Police went smoothly with faster, long-distance riders leading out.
Teams with the NJC and ABCS got busy setting up for lunch and sign-in and took the time for a photo op and to wish Marsha & Amy a Happy Birthday!
As early riders began rolling back in, we were hearing great reports of awesome rest stops and volunteers with the North Jefferson Women’s Center plus beautiful views after the “long climb.” Even though our events are “rides” not “races,” we always enjoy seeing the excitement in and listening to the riders who work together and are the first back in from their century ride.
Many more had exceptional finish times for a 100-mile route with nearly 5,500 miles of climbing! All were happy to see our little mascot, Parker who hadn’t been around lately.
The huge Hamburger Heaven burgers, baked beans, and slaw were enjoyed by everyone including volunteers and our final riders rolling in! Oh yes…and the never-ending soft-serve ice cream!
Back out on the road was Jennifer Moore shooting some terrific photos of cyclists.
You can see more at our BamaBackroads Photo Facebook page.
Marsha Burt, ABCS Photographer snagged a bunch of super Awards photos as riders rolled in and you can view and save to print here.
But, we sure don’t want you to miss infamous Steve Justice who obviously spent a good deal of time planning his post-ride photo op pose!
As always, Century finishers are listed to the right on this page. If you have any corrections, please let us know: firstname.lastname@example.org

NORTH JEFFERSON CENTURY – AUGUST 27,2016
Another fantastic event went into the books with our North Jefferson Century! From the Friday evening pre-registration at the Hoover Academy Sports + Outdoors to ride day registration, the process couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Organizers Clark Raymond, Russell & Tracy Fulmer, and Allen Folse as well as support teams at rest stops and on the road were super supportive. Bike Link’s Cameron rescued a bunch of cyclists both at headquarters and on the roadside. The North Jefferson’s Women Center and Wilson Family Dentistry hosted rest stops with the ride supporting CDKL5 Research.
Quite a change from last year’s cold and rainy NJC with less than 60 participants, the date change and becoming part of the ABCS helped to increase their numbers to nearly 240 riders with 141 completing the century route!
